11 Months

You are officially finished nursing as of a couple of weeks ago.  It makes mama just a little bit sad not to have that special time with you anymore, but mostly I just feel a whole lot of freedom!  Once we found the right bottle, you had no trouble taking formula in it.  You currently take 4 bottles a day, ranging from 4-6 ounces each.

You've been back and forth on sleeping through the night since you were 4 months old, but I think we're finally finished with the roller coaster and you're sleeping through the night for good!  You sleep 7pm to 7am!

You have 3 teeth, two on top and one on bottom, but there are at least 3 more about to poke through any day.

Finally have a pretty regular schedule:
Wake at 7
Nap at 9
Lunch at 12
Nap at 1 or 2
Snack at 4
Dinner at 6
Bed at 7

You survived your first move.

Your favorite word is "buh." You use it to say outside, Hondo, and just about anything that you are trying to communicate to us.

You can say hi, dada, mama, ruff, and you said Ellie recently.  Daddy says he guesses that her smothering you for the past 11 months has paid off.  You also growl when you play with your dinosaurs.

Not interested in baby food at all anymore.  We used it mostly when I didn't make anything that you could eat, but now you will not eat it.  You want the real stuff. Your favorite foods are eggs, muffins, pancakes, toast, bananas, avocados, grapes, strawberries, green beans, green peas, etc.  Honestly, you really love anything that we put on your tray.

You LOVE your paci, and you sleep with two: one in your mouth and one in your hand.

Daddy is one of your favorite people in the world, and you have just recently started preferring him over mama sometimes.  You just make his day when you practically jump out of my arms to go to him.

Favorite toys right now: a ball that lights up when you throw it, a firetruck/fireman, your remote control that we took the batteries out of, and a ride on toy that plays music when you push the buttons.

9 Months

    • 16 lbs, 13 oz (9th percentile)
    • 27 in long (9th percentile)
    • You fell out of your crib last week.  Oops!  Guess we waited a little too long to lower your mattress.Thankfully, you were just fine after a few minutes of crying.
    • You gave your first kisses to Mama...and you haven't done it since.  Ha!
    • You are such a stinker!  Every time we lay you down for a nap or bedtime, we have to go back in at least once to give you back your paci (because you like to stick it through a small crack between the corner of the mattress and the crib.  You've figured out how to play us.  :)
    •  You get everywhere you want to go, and you do it FAST.  You can crawl for real, but you prefer to army crawl because it's much faster.
    • You started pulling up on your knees this week, which is probably what happened with the crib incident.
    • You love Daddy's beard, and actually, you love anyone's beard, for that matter.
    • You are Laine 2.0.  When I go back and look at pictures of Laine at your age, she looks like you with a bow on. And you both look just like your Daddy.
    • We have had such a difficult time getting you on a regular schedule, partly because you're the 3rd child and just have to go with the flow, and partly because you just like to nurse A LOT more than your sisters did.  I'll get you sleeping through the night again and then as soon as we have something that interrupts your environment (traveling, shots, etc), we're back to square one.  This week, you're finally back to sleeping all night after our trips to Kansas City and Tulsa.  Whew!
    •  You nurse about 5-6 times a day, and you eat table food at breakfast and dinner.  I just added some food at lunch for the first time yesterday.  Your favorites are: Everything! Seriously, you've eaten everything I've given you, except baby oatmeal.
    • You take 2-3 naps a day.  Lately it's just been a long one in the morning and a long one in the afternoon.
    •  Your favorite things in the whole house are Hondo's kongs, the Roomba, and your sound machine.  Not kidding.  Anytime you are down on the floor and not contained, you are hightailing it after one of those things.
    • Still no teeth!

    8 months

You are waving!  It's a little (okay, a lot) delayed once you see someone waving at you, but if we wait for it, you will do it.  You've also done it several times without being prompted.

The Roomba is your FAVORITE thing right now.  In fact, if I want to entertain you while I'm busy in the kitchen, I will put you in your jumparoo and turn on the Roomba.  You are mesmerized for as long as I need you to be.  It's hilarious, and it's a win-win!  Vacuumed floors and happy baby = killing two birds with one stone.

You are army crawling!  You only crawl with your left elbow while you balance with your right hand.  You only move an inch at a time, but you do it super fast and it's so cute to watch.  Once you figured out you could get where you want to go, you took off!

You love Hondo just as much as you love the Roomba.  If you're not crawling to the Roomba to try to turn it on, you are crawling to your dog and playing with his tail or touching his face.  Even though it makes Hondo a nervous wreck, he is so patient with you.

At some point over the past few months, I realized that I wasn't changing your clothes and sheets 5 times a day.  Your reflux is SO much better, which means that you probably now spit up about as much as a normal baby does.  It really has made mama's life so much easier, and yours too!  We are currently trying to wean off of the Zantac that you have taken twice a day since you were 2 weeks old.

You're not sitting up on your own yet, but I think you're close.  The problem that you're mobile, you don't sit still long enough to practice.

I cannot believe it, but those first two bottom teeth STILL haven't come through!  Those teeth have already been the cause of restless sleep, crying, pain, and many doses of Tylenol and Ibuprofen.  I've been able to see them under the gums for a couple of months now, and they're welcome to come on through anytime now.

You are nursing every 3-4 hours during the day, and occasionally you still wake up in the middle of the night and want to nurse, usually due to teething pain.

You are eating anything we will give you.  We are doing a hybrid of baby led weaning and traditional baby food.  Basically, it's whatever is most convenient for mama.  But you LOVE food!  When you are in your high chair, you will say, "eh eh eh eh eh eh" LOUDLY until there is either a spoon in your mouth or food on your tray.  We are working on signing more, but for the time being, mama just has to be quick otherwise the rest of the family can't hear each other talking.  Yes, you're that loud.  :)

You love your daddy, but you are a mama's boy!  This might change once you stop nursing and start wanting to do the things that daddy does, but for now I'm soaking up all the snuggles and smiles.

Eight months have flown by! You are the sweetest, most smiley little boy, and watching a little boy learn and grow is so fun. Looking forward to what the next month will bring!

    7 Months

You're still in 3-6 month clothes, but you are also wearing some 6-9 months.

I would guess that you weigh around 15 pounds...still a little bitty guy.

You are rocking on all fours, but no crawling yet!

We started baby led weaning.  So far, you've eaten sweet potatoes, bananas,  nectarine, carrots, and blueberries.  You've loved everything!

You still nurse about five times a day and take 3-4 naps a day.

You are sleeping through the night again!  Whew!  Mommy just started waiting 10 minutes before going into your room in the middle of the night, and by night 3 you didn't need me at all!

    Your favorite toys right now:
    plush frog rattle
    stuffed polar bear
    cymbal and maracas
    reindeer wubbanub

You prefer rolling around on the floor to being in your jumparoo.

Whether it's in a pool or a bathtub, you are a water baby!

Your hair is coming in, and it's looking a little fuzzy.  :)  We can't tell yet if you're going to be a strawberry blonde like Laine, a brunette like Ellie, or just a plain old blonde.

Your little personality is starting to shine through, and it's so fun!  Daddy and I are so excited to see what you will be like as a little boy.  Right now, it seems like you will be very busy and all over the place, but we're up to the challenge. We love you!

    Half a year already?

You're really starting to fill out!  I'm guessing you're a little over 17 lbs right now.

In an effort to help with your spitting up and fussiness, you and mama both started a probiotic a couple of weeks ago.  Mom also significantly cut back on dairy.  Your spitting up and fussiness both do seem to be better, so hopefully it will just continue to improve.

You are rolling around like crazy.  Diaper changes have become a significant challenge.

You've tried rice cereal a few times, and you like it and eat every bite.  We need to get better about doing that every day.

You have still been sleeping swaddled on your tummy, but just yesterday I started swaddling you with your arms out, and you're sleeping better than ever!  In fact, last night you slept through the night for the first time since you were 4 months old.  I'm hoping this is the new normal!

Even though we tried to keep you in the shade the whole time, you got your first sunburn at Laine's fun and field day.

Mama got a new carrier that you both love.  We use it at least once a day.

You are finally in all 3-6 month clothes.

Your favorite things to do: jumparoo, play mat, and putting things in your mouth.

You nurse about 6 times a day, roughly every 3-4 hours in the daytime.

Your smile melts hearts every day, including mine and daddy's.

The car seat isn't your favorite thing, but you don't totally hate it anymore either.

Just in the past week or two, you have started grabbing things like crazy!  We took you to mama's birthday dinner at PF Chang's, and before I knew it you had grabbed a handful of lo mein right off my plate!

You are becoming so much more aware of your surroundings; you are very observant!  You also LOVE to reach for and touch things.  You LOVE to scratch your fingernails on fabric because you like the feel and the sound that it makes.

Grabbing your feet is one of your favorite things to do now.  Your razor-sharp fingernails have actually left some scratches on your lower legs from when you've missed your feet.

You are mesmerized when we sing to you!  Some of your favorites that mama sings: Good Morning to You, Oh Where is My Shepherd, The Name Game, and Goodnight My Someone.

You watch and laugh at your sisters all the time.  You are their biggest fan!

We are just so overjoyed that you are part of our family!  We said this after Laine was born and after Ellie was born, but it really is true...we don't know what in the world we did before you came along!  You keep us busy, but you also keep our hearts full of joy.  We love you, buddy!

    Five months!

Mama is writing this post retroactively, so it may be pretty short.  I can barely remember what I did yesterday, much less what you were doing a month ago.  But I'll do my best!

You were sleeping through the night like a champ, until right after your four-month birthday.  Now you're back to waking up once or twice every night.  Momma is tired, buddy.

This month you made your first trip to Nonny's house in Benton and Mawmaw's house in Glen Rose.  During that trip, you also got to meet Aunt Necie and Aunt Ruth.  Normally, you hate your car seat, so mama was worried about the trip, but thankfully, you traveled really well!

Tried a bite of mashed potatoes on Easter.  Didn't love 'em.

Wearing mostly 3-6 month clothes, but some of the 0-3 month still fit.

You nurse about 7 times a day, about every 3 hours.

Shep, you're my high maintenance little boy, but I love you so much!  My heart is growing tremendously as I watch you grow.  Love you so much!!

    Four Months

Unlike your sisters, you are a petite little guy...12 lbs, 12 oz (5th percentile) and 24-1/2 inches long (15th percentile).

Still in size 1 diapers, but I think we will be moving up soon.  Still wearing mostly 0-3 month clothes, but some of the 3-6 month outfits are starting to fit.

Your looks have changed a lot in the past month, but you are still so handsome!

You are very easily distracted while nursing.  If there is anything going on in the house, I have to feed you in your room with the sound machine on.  Seriously.

You love to stare at Daddy's books in your nursery, and THEY even distract you while nursing sometimes.

I recently started doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred.  One night you were watching me, and every time I did a squat, you pushed your feet up on Daddy's legs and lifted your bottom off the couch for a second.  You did it every single time I did, and we could not stop laughing!

You usually take a long nap in the morning and in the afternoon and 2-3 shorter naps throughout the day.

You are sleeping through the night (10 hours), and it is wonderful!  I do still have to get up sometimes and put your paci back in, but I will take it!

    You LOVE your sisters!

You despise your carseat, which is really unfortunate for all of us since we are on the go A LOT!

Like most babies, the evenings are your fussy time.  But I can get you to calm down by holding you the way you like and singing to you.

You made your first trip to Glenwood to see the Wright family, and while we were there, you rolled over tummy to back for Mammaw and Aunt Dana!  Mommy didn't see it, of course, but you've come close a few more times.

Your favorite place to be is on your changing table.  Daddy and I think it's because you have someone's undivided attention for a few minutes.

I just know your bottom two teeth are going to pop through any day now!  You are a drooling machine, everything goes in the mouth, and I can tell you are in pain some days. :(

You have reached the age when you have a difficult time sleeping on me or Daddy.  You just want to be in your bed!  It's nice when we're at home, but if we have to be out of the house it can get a bit tricky.

I am understanding more every day the special bond between a mom and a son. You have stolen my heart! Your eyes follow me across the room, and if anyone else is holding you, you won't stop staring at me.  Daddy calls me your girlfriend, and I love it.  I'll be your girlfriend as long as you'll let me.  :)
